In 1 Thessalonians, Paul reminds us to “Rejoice always” and “Pray without ceasing” (5:16-17) While the ultimate prayer and the life of the Church center on the Mass – most especially the Eucharist – we cannot remain in liturgy all day. Devotional practices help us to infuse ceaseless prayer into our everyday lives. Each week, St. Teresa offers the following devotions in the main church:
THE HOLY ROSARY
The Rosary is a wonderful devotion to foster love for the Blessed Virgin Mary and seek her motherly intercession. The Holy Rosary can be prayed communally or privately. It is such a powerful devotion that it is prayed at St. Teresa every day:
- Sundays before each Mass
- Monday – Saturday at 7:30am
- First Thursdays of the month at 7:00pm - Prodigal Prayer Partners (fallen-away Catholics)
- Anytime you like in Church or the Adoration Station
- If you don’t have a Rosary, you can typically find one to borrow in the Adoration Station.
- Pamphlets on how to pray the Rosary are available in the vestibule of the church.
Lauds (Morning Prayer)
Monday – Friday at 6:15am
Roman Catholic priests pray the Liturgy of the Hours each day. The major hours are the Office of Readings, Morning Prayer (also called Lauds), and Evening Prayer (or Vespers). As St. Basil the Great declared, Lauds is the office of praise that sanctifies the morning “so that the first stirrings of our mind and will may be consecrated to God and that we may take nothing in hand until we have been gladdened by the thought of God.”
Fatima Devotions
First Saturday of each month following 8:15am Mass
In 1917, Our Lady appeared to three children in Fatima, Portugal with a message to pray the Rosary, repent of sin, and perform acts of reparation. Our Lady asked that we offer First Saturday Devotions to make reparation for offenses against her Immaculate Heart and for world peace. To honor Our Lady’s request, we pray the Fatima Prayer and Litany on every First Saturday.
