Communion to the Sick

“"The Eucharist bathes the tormented soul in light and love. Then the soul appreciates these words, 'Come all you who are sick, I will restore your health.”

About This Ministry

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion at St. Teresa bring the True Presence of Christ in the Eucharist to those who are too sick to attend Mass. In bringing Communion to them, the Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion represents Christ and manifests faith and charity on behalf of the entire parish. For the sick, the reception of Communion is not only a privilege, but also a sign of support and concern shown by the Christian community for its members who are ill.

Training

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion need specific training and written permission from the Ordinary before being authorized to bring Holy Communion to the sick in their homes or in nursing homes.
